Oh, what a fun place. Hesitant to drink wine that tastes simply like fruit, I didn't stop here on earlier trips to southwest Missouri. After drinking a lovely dry granny smith dry wine, and hearing that Oovda makes dry wines out of regular fruit, I had to stop in. Glad we did! My fellow traveler fell in love with the raspberry wine, and I liked the blueberry. Lovely hosts, with a wonderful Australian shepherd who loves to be skritched behind his ears. I'll be back here for their elegant dessert wines, and their Nortons which need to be socked away for a couple of years. It's so popular that they don't have enough aged! Nice place, and good wine.

Favorite Wine: Dry Blackberry
Norton Wine Review: OOVVDA Wines has now been open for five years, but Jim Overboe, the vintner, admits that this long time hobby is a venture gone wild. Here you will find only a few select grape wines accompanied by some remarkable fruit wines. What a collection of Apple, Raspberry, and Blackberry wines (Red Plum not available when we were there). Maybe the best dry Blackberry wine we have ever tasted. An interesting dry Reliance grape table wine and a long tasting, pretty light yellow Traminette was introduced to us. Under the heading of dry reds was a sampling of Chambourcin and three Norton wines, an un-oaked ’08, a light oaked ’09, and a heavy oaked Norton Reserve. I did not find OOVVDA’s Norton wines distinctive, but the ’09 did intrigue me with its passing clove taste (something no one else seemed to pick up on).

Favorite Wine: Semi-dry Blueberry
I can't name one wine from OOVVDA that I wouldn't drink (though I tend to lean towards the drier ones and the Semi-dry fruit wines when given the choice). Do yourself a favor, go taste some great wines that you won't find anywhere else! www.oovvda.com
