We've been to this winery a couple times. The winery and tasting room is beautiful. View from the picnic area is tremendous, especially in the Fall.

Favorite Wine: Othello

I found a couple new reds here but i prefer a more intimate setting for a wine tasting. The banquet hall was packed our entire visit and there is a wait with the staff stretched between several tables or a crowded bar. This is definately a popular place and we were there late in the day so it may had something to do with the crowd. I would visit again for more Othello, i marinated my steaks in it for a couple days, grilled them and it was the best steaks I've ever made

Favorite Wine: Scintilla and Othello

Veritas is probably the largest and most well-known of all the wineries in the area. They have very extensive grounds with lots of gazebos and tables tucked away for you to go and enjoy a glass of wine. In addition to beautiful grounds, they have a very impressive tasting room that is an updated, more contemporary looking lodge. Although it was fun visiting Veritas, the experience lacked the welcoming and friendliness of other vineyards I've vised in Nelson County Hill Top and Wintergreen. The wines were also not nearly as impressive as I thought they would be.

We went to Veritas Wines on the recommendations of two Virginia bloggers. $5 tasting fee for either their white or red offerings with fee applicable to wine purchases. This more formal presentation site could easily accommodate weddings and other celebrations, but luckily for us this day it was a quiet setting in the beautiful hills of Virginia. Though we opted for the red tasting, our hostess did “slip” in her personal favorite estate bottled Chardonnay which we found as a back of the tongue drying venture. Their Rose made for a surprisingly nice Cabernet Franc and Merlot deep pink blend presentation (picked up a couple bottles for spring time garden settings). Though interesting, we did not opt for their Chambourcin blend, asparagus laced Cabernet Franc, musty Merlot, or Claret (Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot blend). Pleasant setting for a casual wine, but Virginia has many other nice vineyard options.

Arcady Vineyard loves to bring guests to Veritas. They have a very informative Sommelier there who gives wonderful tours! Try their Sauvignon Blanc - very difficult to grow in Central Virginia, but this winery has it figured out! They have a Reserve Sauvignon Blanc to be released this year that is predicted to be fantastic! Beautiful location with outdoor tables for lunching. During the warmer weather on the second Saturday of the month they have "Starry Nights" - live music and dancing - bring a blanket or a chair and dinner and have some fun!
