Favorite Wine: Chambourcin

Visited with the in-laws. Beautiful place. Small tasting room with limited seating. The employee was very knowlegable, and VERY very friendly. We enjoyed talking to her. The wines were very good too. I usually like the fruity wines the best, but the Chambourcin was my favorite. Concord, Hummingbird Blush and Niagra were all very good also.

Norton Wine Review: I was pleasantly surprised that Cedar Creek Vineyards was able to send us examples of both their Cynthiana (Norton) and Chambourcin wines. Both wines had the taste of being from young vines (I’ll call tomorrow to see if my taste buds were telling me the truth). – it’s tomorrow and I was kinda wrong, the Norton grapes came from eight-year-old vines and the Chambourcin from ten-year-old vines grown in a “sandy” soil. There were slight peppery overtones in both wines controlled by having had oak chips added to the vat for six months, but I do not infer by this a bitterness found so often in Southern wines. A different Norton taste from Southeast Kentucky. [Please ignore Winery & Ambiance rating since we were not actually at the winery.]
