Favorite Wine: Cinq Troi

Pro's: The view and the tasting room were great. It's a good place if you don't like the large crowds like at Barrel Oak. Side note, don't be insulted about the no limo rule. A little research and the sign at the front of the winery should clue you in to that. Con's: The selection of wines wasn't anything to write home about. Also didn't appreciate the attitude from one of the employees towards a friend with a child on our second visit. They had sat the child on the bar momentarily and were quickly told "We have liquor laws here!" Maybe so, but could have been handled more politely.

My friends and I planned a winery tour with a local limo service today. I requested only 3 wineries for various reasons .... Vintage Ridge, Delaplane Cellars, and Barrel Oak. Vintage Ridge was welcoming, lovely wine, delicious pairings and great service. Delaplane Cellars was none of the above. The owner and manager wouldn't even let us enter their winery. They were rude!!!!! Why?? because we were being responsible and arriving in a limo. They wouldn'even suggest a location for our driver to park and wait while six ladies continued to enjoy their afternoon. They went as far as calling the police, as our driver was turning around to exit!!! We left there insulted, embarrassed and angry to be treated so rudely. The owner and manager could have handled the situation more professionsally. We moved on ..... too many wineries to see, who would appreciate our company and our business. Thank you Barrel Oak for your warm and friendly welcome. We enjoyed our time with you. I highly recommend Vintage Ridge and Barrel Oak. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO DELAPLANE CELLARS!!!!!

Favorite Wine: 2009 Chardonnay

We have visited this winery twice. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner on our first trip and he was a blast. The wines are delicious. They should charge an entrance fee simply for the view from this winery! We will be returning to this winery again in the future!

I am the owner of this winery and I find the previous review by The Norton Wine Travelers to be particularly irritating and insulting. I think it should be noted that we opened the winery early that day just to accommodate this visitor. Throughout the tasting, all he could talk about was how great Norton wines are. That just about says it all regarding his wine knowledge and palate. He obviously doesn't think much of the greatest red wines in the world (Bordeaux) which are all blends. No further comment is necessary.

Upon reading online the tantalizing recent opening of Delaplane Cellars, we made a special attempt to visit this new vineyard site. This is a picturesque setting with the presentation of long, solid black walnut tasting bars, oversized entrance doors made of the same wood harvested from the vineyards construction site, and wonderful views into the Shenandoah Mountains. Unfortunately that is where all the praises end. The wines were as pretentious as the inflated prices. Varietal tastes were camouflaged by the blends incorporated. Classic and Reserve tasting fees were not applicable to purchases. With Delaplane’s prices for non-descript wines, the owners had brought New York style attitudes South and I don’t think this is gonna work.
