St. Michaels Winery (written Feb 20, 2011)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
I have to say that I was extremely impressed with this winery's wines, and I can't wait to go back. I have even been on the lookout for some St. Michael's Winery wines in my local stores (but they don't sell in VA yet, only MD and DE). Out of the 12 wines I tasted, there were at least 9 that I woudl love to take home, though I only splurged on about 4 bottles. I have been to dozens of Virginia wineries, and this one Maryland winery seems to make better wine than the vast majority of Virginia wineries that claim to have fantastic soil. It just goes to prove that it doesn't take great soil - it takes great winemakers. The employees were incredibly friendly, but be warned that it can get VERY busy on a nice summer day, so plan to wait a little while to get your seat at a barrel in the quaint tasting room.
