Keswick Vineyards (written Jan 27, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Keswick is one of our favorite wineries in VA. Their wines are consistently first rate -- they have some great powerhouse reds that are real standouts. Try the easy drinking Trevillian, the more full bodied Touriga, or the Heritage. Hints of smoke, dark, earthy -- superb; but we're big fans so probably a bit biased. Less complimentary? Okay: the tasting room can get crowded, often there's a line to sample the wines, and they run sales behind the same crowded tasting counter which we fine a little annoying. Still, in the summer you have some escape options: they have a couple nice spots on the porch and outside overlooking the pond where you can enjoy a glass of wine with friends.

Unicorn Winery (written Jan 27, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
We've passed this winery 50 times going back and forth to Rappahannock Cellars -- finally gave it a try and glad we did. Wines were a surprise (good); the pourer was knowledgeable and friendly, and while the tasting room is on the modest side, the property is absolutley beautiful with a couple great outdoor sipping areas overlooking a nice pond and surrounded by a huge table rock and about 7 planted acres. We've heard this property is for sale at about 2M which sounds like a decent deal, but which unfortunately leaves us with well over a million reasons why we can't buy it. Overall a great experience, esp if you're pallet leans towards the dry side. Definately coming back to enjoy the outside atmosphere this place promises this Spring.
