Grape Creek Vineyards (written Jan 14, 2010)

Grape Creek has a wide variety available, and many are fairly good. But their prices reflect a pride that may have swollen beyond their product a bit. Nonetheless, I was very pleased with their Merlot, even though I tend to relegate Merlots to the bottom of my list of favorite reds. So if the prices don't seem a touch too high for you, you'll enjoy several of their offerings.

Abience is one of the best in the area. The outside deck and tables are just made for relaxing. The wines, though, seemed a bit too young and rushed to market too soon, as of 2009. As their vineyards age, we expect the wine quality to catch up to the ambience, but that may be a year or two off in the future. Once that happens, there will be ample variety available. Keep this winery on your list, but your expectations farther out on the horizon for now.
Becker Vineyards (written Jan 14, 2010)

Becker sports a wide variety of wines, but the best ones are only available at the winery itself. Among these are the Barbera and the Cabernet-Syrah Reserve. The 2006 vintage of both goes well with a good cut of red meat, and each will hold up to a peppercorn steak. Plan ahead, as you won't find these latter two wines in your local store. Other Becker wines are decent to good by Texas standards, but none seem particularly memorable, although there are some good values in their selection.
Rancho Ponte Vineyard (written Jan 13, 2010)

In February, 2009, this fairly new winery seemed to be on the brink of offering some very promising wines, despite its young age. The proprieter has adopted Italian approaches to wines. Keep this winery on your radar, as some of the early renderings have fared well. We look forward to future offerings.
