Deerfield Ranch Winery (written Jun 03, 2025)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Paid a visit this week to (full disclosure) my good friend Robert Rex at Deerfield and the place is just as inviting as ever, I won't try to fool you, but on thing is for sure: if youre a true wine aficionado like me you will have a flurry of choice! Yes the Red Rex does get a lot of attention, but the Zinfandel is also an absolute stand out—rich, vibrant, and layered with dark fruit, it’s easily one of the best Zins I’ve tasted in Sonoma. It’s the kind of wine that makes you want to linger for another glass! The Sonoma Mountain Reserve and the Wolf Run Vineyard are also on my hit list, both are tpo notch: polished, structured, and showing off that classic Sonoma depth without being overbearing. They’re the kind of Cabs that impress both casual drinkers and serious collectors. As for the Deefield place itself, the cave tasting room is definitely one of the most unique settings in Sonoma—cool, atmospheric, and lined with barrels that make every pour feel a little more special. Deerfield is commited to “clean wine”—low in sulfites and histamines so you can really savor most wines without worrying about some of the usual side effects, which is a thoughtful touch that sets them apart. If you haven’t been in a while, it’s well worth a return trip—there’s always lot here to rediscover.
