Wilhelm Family Vineyards (written Dec 21, 2011)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 1 stars
We have been repeat customers at Wilhelm for the past two years. We prefer sweeter, lighter wines, so the Takara Rose and Albarino have been favorites of ours. However, after our last experience at Wilhelm, we will NEVER be back. On our last visit, we did our usual wine tasting gig to try some new flavors and some old favorites. We did the wine tasting and walked away with a dozen bottles of wine and a wine club membership! However, when we got home and opened the first bottles, we were really bummed out to discover that the wines did not taste like what we had in the tasting room (or what they've tasted like in the past 2 years). Most notably, the Takara was carbonated! We called Karyl at Wilhelm and she said that a lot of the Takaras had refermented and become chardonnays. She admitted that other customers have already complained about this, and that the Takara's should have been rebranded. She said she would take our remaining 10 bottles of both wines back for a refund. Long story short -- we gave her the case back and she said she'd refund it in a few days. A week later we called her because we hadn't received the refund, and she gave us a 10 minute blast about how she had made a poor business decision in taking the wine back, and how no other vineyard would have done that, etc, but that she was grudgingly still giving us in the refund...in a few more days. A few days later...no refund, and a week after that she won't even answer or return our phone calls. And she still has the case of wine that we returned to her. The whole experience was unbelievable. We feel poorly treated, especially as repeat customers. It is unfortunate that Wilhelm will not stand by their product. And it is mind boggling to think of a business owner acting this way.
