North Mountain Vineyard & Winery (written Mar 06, 2015)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Loved this winery! Wines tasted were the Chardonnay, Oktoberfest, 2011 Chambourcin, Tom's Brook Red and Sweet Caroline's Blush. The Chardonnay was clean and fruity with a slight oak from French Oak barrels...Oktoberfest is a blend of Vidal Blanc, Riesling and Traminette. Slightly sweet...would be great with spicy food or German food...Chambourcin is light and fruity...good Virginia Chambourcin for everyday red...Tom's Brook Red is a sweet Cab Franc...fruity and full with sweet finish...very good...Blush is sweet and fruity...great summer sipping wine or hot tub wine. The owner is German and she was very friendly and knew her wines and the growing conditions of Virginia...would love to visit in the summer. North Mountain wines will be on my shelf often....

Cream Ridge Winery (written Feb 15, 2015)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Merlot, Jersey Berry, American Zinfandel

Visited Cream Ridge with my brother for his birthday on Valentine's Day. The winery offered 10 wines to taste for $5, plus they added 2 cheesecakes with dessert wines. It was awesome!! Wines were very, very palatable. All the whites I tried except Muscato Amabile. I liked the Pinot Grigio, Jersey Berry (Chardonnay and cranberry), Eastern White (adult white grape juice). The reds I liked were American Zinfandel (very fruity and light...great pizza/hamburger wine), Merlot(fruity, plummy, lush and smooth. The Almond Berry and Pineapple were paired with cheesecakes. OMG!! Awesome is all I can say!! The raspberry and Niagara combination of the Almond Berry is insane! I ended up buying a Jersey Berry (I'm a born Jersey Girl), American Zinfandel and a Java mini. The Java mini tastes like coffee. My husband is a coffee fanatic. Great for him. Loved the winery. The event was held in the barrel room with stations. Great setup. You were given tickets to place in a wine glass each time you tasted a wine. Will go back in the spring or summer to see the scenery then.

Reynard Florence Vineyard (written Feb 15, 2014)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Very unassuming winery. Wines were very good. Bought the Petit Manseng. Sweeter white, but up my alley. Not much of a hangout winery, with a small tasting room and not much outside. Good for wine trailing in the area. Found a barbeque place nearby that was enjoyable as well.

Glass House Winery (written Feb 15, 2014)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Really enjoyed the winery. The greenhouse was awesome. My husband said it reminded him of Hawaii. Wines were very tasty. Had a glass of the Signora Traminette. Very floral and fruity with sweetness. Bought a bottle too. Pretty far off the beaten path, but worth the trip.

Cardinal Point Vineyard & Winery (written Nov 18, 2013)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

The winery was so crowded, we could not get in for a tasting very disappointing

Uncle John's Cider Mill (written Sep 10, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Great place. We stopped on our way home from visiting family. Fruit wines were very good. Bought the semi sweet Reisling...great little shop with touristy stuff and awesome bakery there too.

Little Washington Winery (written Sep 10, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Chardonnay...both

Absolutely beautiful scenery here. They only had two Chardonnay that they produce. One in oak and one in stainless steel. Both were equally good. I did not like the rest of the wines because they are from all over the world. Someone selects them for them and they add them to their tasting list. If I am at a Virginia winery, I want Virginia produced wine...sorry

Sharp Rock Vineyards (written Sep 10, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Loved the grounds here. Wines were ok and honestly don't remember any of them.

DuCard Vineyards (written Sep 10, 2013)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: 2nd Corps white and rose'

Beautiful grounds and liked the tasting room. Wines were very good. Gibson Hollow White, Rose, Popham Run Red and the 2nd Corps Civil War bottle wine were all favorites. We had lunch on the patio and it was gorgeous looking out to the mountain. No vines to see from there. Scott is very sweet and personable. Only drawback was the tasting took a very long time. The woman pouring had three groups of us all on different wines. Will go back.

Winery at La Grange, The (written Apr 18, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Did not like this winery...very, very crowded...did not like the one server who seemed very arrogant and told us he did not have to do festivals to be successful...kind of snobby. Wines were mediocre...liked the 2011 Cuvee Blanc and the 2012 Cuvee Blanc...2012 better. 2010 Cab Franc was also good. Will bring my usual winery buddy there so she can see it, but probable would not sit and spend a great deal of time there. Pretty house and grounds, but like I said very hard to park and extrememly crowded.

Pearmund Cellars (written Apr 18, 2013)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: 2010 Old Vine Chardonnay

Pearmund has become a favorite of mine!!Beautiful vineyard. The 30+ year old Chardonnay vines are phenomenal. Wines were delicious! Favorite was the 2010 Old Vine Chardonnay and 2010 Merlot. The 2007 Collaboration was yummy too! Some of their grapes are from Washington State, which has and is my second favorite state for wine. I am not a California Girl!!! The Collaboration is 66% Cab Sauv, 18% Merlot and 8% Malbec and Cab Franc from Walla Walla, WA vineyard. I like that they tell you where grapes for wine are from, here or Washington State. We had lunch and the grounds are gorgeous. There were a lot of people there, but did not feel crowded because so vast an area. Will def be back!!!

Granite Heights (written Apr 18, 2013)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Petit Manseng 2011

Awesome winery! Very close to us in Fredericksburg. The owners were on site and very sweet and cordial. Wines were very good. I bought a table red named Evening Serenade, very smooth and sippable all year long. Their 2011 Petit Manseng, white, very good and reminded me of Chardonnay. Also bought the Rose' which has 3% sugar, but did not taste that sweet. Beautiful grounds with a small pond. Can't wait to sit out there again in the warm sunshine, a picnic and some delicious wine!

Working Dog Winery (written Jan 27, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Very pretty winery and good wines. My brother lives very close to winery, so he took me there while visiting him. Great patio area and I am sure in the spring and summer its awesome. We were there in November 2012.

Mediterranean Cellars (written Jan 27, 2013)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Very nice winery...very good wines too. Our server Katie was fun!! Sat by the gas fireplace in the corner and enjoyed their Belleview Blanc. Reminded me of Hortons' Niagara, but not as sweet. Was snowing just a little when we were there and it was very pretty. Spring and summer are going to be awesome here. Will return I am sure before then...

Grayhaven Winery (written Jan 20, 2013)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Part of the Wine Trail, they did not have any white wines to taste and the reds were not good...sorry...but, your chili rocked!! Grounds may be really nice in the summer, lots of picnic and walking space in fields. Small tasting room.

James River Cellars (written Jan 20, 2013)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: 2011 Chardonnay/NV Meritage

Loved this place...strange it sits right off of Route 1...almost missed it. Wines were very palatable. We did this as part of the Wine Trail and they had chili that day. Chili was good...pretty crowded, but we met 2 wonderful people we shared our table with. 2011 Chardonnay, 2011 Vidal Blanc, 2011 Chambourcin, NV Meritage some of my favorites. Will be there when the weather gets warmer, the outside looks great. They have the most beautiful quilts displayed throughout the winery...

Fifty-Third Winery and Vineyards (written Jan 20, 2013)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Chardonel 2011/Sweet Louisa

Although Sweet Louisa was one of the first wines I tasted when I started this venture a few years ago, this was my first visit to the winery. Fairly close to my home in Fredericksburg, it will be a mainstay and go to winery...great atmosphere and the wines were delicious...Loved the Chardonel 2011, Coopertage Blanc 2011, Petit Verdot Reserve 2010(awesome) and the Noche are some of my favs. Can't wait until the warm weather to visit, though we sat outside with heaters and some great ladies with dogs who went hiking that morning and we had a great time and were comfortable...Cooper Winery see you soon!!

Rappahannock Cellars (written Oct 04, 2012)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Very pretty winery...Wines very good...2011 Rose', 2010 Merlot and 2008 Vidal Blanc some of my favorites. The best was the 2010 Port Style "Red Dessert Wine"...Delicious. Would return and loved the winery dog...she was so sweet!!

Lake Anna Winery (written Sep 05, 2012)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

I have been to the winery for the Renaissance Festival, but never visited the tasting room...should have done it sooner!!! The man pouring for us is a friend of the owners who lives in Connecticut. He was a blast! We had two other gentlemen who were tasting beside us. Fun, fun, fun!!! Wines were very yummy. Chardonnay Barrel Select 2010 was one of my favorites. Totally White and Lakeside Sunset also very good. Morgan Merlot 2007 also tops. The picnic area outside is very picturesque with the vineyards in front. Will be back since the winery is only 1/2 hour from my home!! Great time was had.

Mattaponi Winery (written Sep 05, 2012)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Riesling, Pow Wow and Odeimin(strawberry)

Phenomenal fruity wines!! The tasting room is small and the grounds could use some sprucing up, but the wines!! There was not one that we tasted that we did not like. The Riesling and Odeimin are my favorites. The Odeimin is strawberry. The color is an awesome amber red. The flavor is straight strawberry...Miskwamin(red berry) is Blue Concord and would pair with pasta, beef or lamb. The Merlot was very smooth...really liked this. Finally, Pow Wow...chocolate covered strawberry wine and that is all I have to say about that! This would be gone before you know it!

Hague Winery, The (written Sep 05, 2012)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Very pretty area. Open field winery with a covered picnic area off the tasting room. We ate lunch here and it was very enjoyable. The 2009 Chardonel was too acidic for me. The 2010 Chardonel was sweeter and liked this one. I could taste the Muscat. The 2009 Merlot was awesome and I am not a red wine fan...Very smooth and the lady pouring for us(sorry forgot your name) said to marinade steaks in it and grill. Of course, drink with the steak as well! Also, a fruit reduction over pork would be awesome as well. 2010 Cynthia Dessert wine was to die for!! Over pound cake with fruit...yum!!

Vault Field Vineyards (written Sep 05, 2012)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: 2009 Conundrum and 2009 Rose'

Pretty area. Loved the sign out front and the huge grape cluster painted on the garage! The tasting room is small, but liked the barrels behind the bar and all around. Wines were good. Did not see a place to picnic.

General's Ridge Vineyard & Winery (written Sep 05, 2012)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: GRV Rose and GRV White.

Beautiful grounds. The Manor House as you come in is beautiful. Would love to rent it for a night...a lot of history there. Vineyard is vast and beautiful. Tasting room was not impressive for the rest of the winery though. Wines were good. Liked the GRV Rose and GRV White.

Chateau Ste. Michelle (written Aug 29, 2012)

Absolutely beautiful place! In my husbands' hometown...wines are very good. My favorite is the Late Harvest Riesling.

Narmada Winery (written Aug 29, 2012)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Mom

Absolutely, hands down my favorite winery!! Gorgeous grounds, awesome owners, delicious Indian food and terrific wines! Pandit and Sudha are the owners and the most wonderful people. They never fail to be the perfect hosts! The wines are phenomenal and when paired with the food...to die for! Mom is my favorite wine, but you cannot go wrong with any of them!! Visit soon and you will return often!

Willowcroft Farm Vineyards (written Aug 29, 2012)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Would love to visit again. We did not get to taste the wines because the tasting room was so crowded and unorganized. Apparently, there were like 2 people pouring and too many visitors.

Casanel Vineyards (written Aug 29, 2012)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Loved the history of the winery. The wines were ok, not my favorite. The Chardonnay was my favorite.
