Simi Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Always a big fan. Have had several laying down in the cellar for a while. On the first trip as B&B owners, they laid out the red carpet.... private tasting etc. the whole royal treatment, we felt like VIPs... then they found out we were a boutique small inn and were not going to be selling us cases after cases... non the less, they were all gracious. Good wine. Refreshing whites.

Sebastiani Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Cool tasting room. Nice selection of Italian varietals.

Robert Sinskey Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Yummy wines. The Merlot is by far my fav. After G-B, this merlot has to be my second favorite. First introduced at a wine dinner in Savannah, GA. Visited on a trip to CA.

Robert Mondavi Corp. (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Served up some Magnums at the B&B to our guests. Good staple.

Shafer Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
I hear it is to kill for. Can't remember if I ever had?

Frog'S Leap Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
A med school pal of mine offered up a few bottles as a wedding gift. Awesome whites. Visited the place on a trip to Ca. Ribbit!

Far Niente Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Ex-wife was a big fan. Served the stuff in our B&B in Savannah.

De Loach Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
When Mr. C. Deloach visited Savannah's First City Club for a wine dinner, I became a big fan. Only in America can a retired fireman become a great winemaker. Kudos.

Rafanelli Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Short visit. Can't remember much... must have been one of the last hit on a heavy wine tasting day trip. Guess I will have to visit this place again.

Rabbit Ridge Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Visited on first trip to Ca. Good wine, took several bottles back and a t-shirt I may add that I still wear to this day. Winery at time of visit was pretty rustic as they were adding on.

Dry Creek Vineyard (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Visited on first trip out to California. memorable.

David Bruce Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
On a trip up to see a friend restoring an Alfa Romeo for me in Boulder Creek.. we passed thru. Good ol stuff. Bit pricey, but introduced to a sample years ago at a party.

Ravenswood Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Oh, the red Zinfandel is my fav. I once had 3 bottles with a couple of friends during dinner at Il Pasticcio in Savannah, GA... and that was after a huge wine tasting hours before.

Gundlach-Bundschu Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
One of my favorite wineries. Down to earth kinda place. Introduced to the Merlot at a private dinner club in Savannah years ago. Still must be one of my favorite Merlots to date. Very much of the chocolate and cigar in it.

Ferrari-Carano Vineyard and Wnry (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Beautiful grounds. Good well rounded wines. Priced right at least when I was there a few years ago.

Peju Province Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Ummm. Nice gardens with sculptures. Would have really enjoyed the wine, but the horses ass that was pouring that day got on my nerves. Hint: get rid of that blow-hard and maybe visitors would buy more wine. Should he move on I will be back for a re-tasting. Initial impression was over rated and over prices wine (plunk in terms of California wine). Would recommend the gardens ONLY at this point.

Pedroncelli Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Awesome stuff. Some great wines come out of this place. First introduced to this winery at a wine dinner in Beaufort, SC.

Opus I Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
OK... Awesome piece of architecture, looks like some Mayan temple. But $$$ to taste the wine... come on now. Go for the scenery and the awesomeness of the place. Wines are overrated (sorry Robert) and over priced. I personally like the simple rustic places you find in Sonoma Co. where the proprietor who pours you a free tasting has soil under his fingernails from just coming in after a day of pruning the vines.

Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Now the Rubicon. Special thanks shout out to Larry Stone for getting me passes in (passport). To the vinery and tour. 2 hr. + tour not to be missed. Great wine, Great history and a cool little museum honoring the director Coppola. A must stop if in the area.

Uwharrie Vineyards (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Story is an ex- doc com dude from the West Coast comes into town to open up a winery. Wines are pretty good for NC. Actually like the Chard. The Muscat is pretty decent. The Merlot was OK at best and the Cab (given time to mellow) was alright after laying it down for a bit.

Lowcountry Winery (written Jul 15, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
European varietals are OK, not great but maybe with time will mature. Some of the fruit wines are refreshing on a hot summer day. My wife liked the Framboise. Not really into all that, but was pretty decent. A bit pricy for what you are getting. Winery.. or tasting room is spartan. Wine production is done off site at a warehouse somewhere in the lowcountry.

Stonehaus Winery (written Jul 13, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Remember visiting some years back when I attended a CME in TN. Nice place. Can't recall anything negative about the wine. Surprised.

San Sebastian Winery (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Bit touristy for my taste... but that is St. Augustine for ya. Ok wines, but the PORT was yummy... go for the Port! Actually came back for more.

Rockhouse Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Very cool family winery. Place is nice to drive out to. Like what they are doing with their wines. Cool label. If I were to own a winery it would mirror this place.

Jefferson Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Ok... a bit touristy for my taste.. wines were OK.. but the bottles were FAB! Had to buy a few just to have some very cool empties to stuff some candles in.

Horton Cellars Winery (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
Cool place. Visited back in early 2000s. Dennis was friendly and the place was very laidback. Horton's Norton was the fav. Interestingly enough Larry Stone gave some good reviews of the wine.

Chateau Morrisette Winery (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
OK.. been there.

Barboursville Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
The owners are from Italy.. a bit "big" on themselves, but always had a nice experience there. Haven't been there since 2004, actually owned 30 acres of land across from them for a while. Sold it to the winery as my plans to open a B&B faded. Non the less, good wines. Nice place to spend an afternoon... cool ruins.

Winery at Iron Gate Farm (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Interesting place. The folks there were very friendly but a bit too big on their wines. Wines were good and they had a very unusual way of protecting their crop... fences and tents... wow!

Windy Gap Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Hmmmmm. Passed by and spoke with owner as the winery was for sale. Wines were average at best, Winery was priced not to sell.... Place was a mess.

Shelton Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Great place to hang out. Once of my favorite wineries to visit in NC. Nice job on the restaurant (service and food were great!)

RagApple Lassie Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Visited this small operation while visiting the area. Good wines. Wish there was someone in attendance when we stepped into the place.

Childress Vineyards (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Good wines on the back of NASCAR. Oh what a combination. No need for vaccinations to visit this winery.

Biltmore Estate Winery (written Dec 07, 2007)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
OK... Fact: they may have the largest tasting room and the largest number of tasters per year of any winery in the USA. Fact: The wine is average! Bigger ain't necessarily better!

McCrea Cellars (written Jul 17, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Very cool winemaker.

Chateau Elan Winery (written Jul 17, 2007)
