Fred Holland's Wine Journal Entries

RagApple Lassie Vineyards (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Solid wines. Very friendly, knowledgable staff.

Shelton Vineyards (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Too much emphasis on sweet wines. Red wines were thin and a bit off. Beautiful building and grounds. Location in the northern Yadkin Valley is apparently a good place to grow Reisling.

Childress Vineyards (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Beautiful facilities. Wines show promise. A bit expensive for what you get.

Prejean Winery (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Great dry German-style whites. Family run operation.

New Kent Winery (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: Meritage

Limited tasting selection, but had a nice Chardonnay and solid Meritage. Friendly winery staff.

Williamsburg Winery (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 1 stars

Favorite Wine: red blend

Horrible tasting experience. No one would wait on or even greet half-a-dozen customers. Regemented tasting. Focus of location seems to be the restaurant not the winery. Confusing mix of very similar red blends. Many of the better Williamsburg wines were not available at the winery.

Grove Winery (written Aug 05, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Cab Sauv & Nebbiolo

Really nice dry reds. Tempranillo and Merlot were very big & solid, but Cab Sauv and Nebbiolo were most excellent.
