DCLIFFO's Wine Journal Entries

Slate Run Vineyard (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Didn't care for his wines or his attitude. Bought my husband a bottle of Finale. Too much of a "plastic" atmosphere.

Heineman Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
It has been a couple of years since I was there, but I enjoyed the tour & the relaxed atmosphere. Wine was too sweet for me.

Old Firehouse Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Different atmosphere, kind of fun. Food was "bar" food. I didn't care for the wine but my husband liked the Pink Catawba

The Lakehouse Inn Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Too small of a tasting room & server was behind a half wall, felt impersonal. Wines were too dry for my taste. Nice views.

Valley Vineyards (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
So disappointed this was just off a highway. Prices were reasonable. Staff was a bit snooty.

Raven's Glenn Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
I can't say enough about Raven's Glen. Awesome food, great atmosphere & very friendly wait staff.

Rainbow Hills Vineyards (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
I could see myself staying way too long at this winery. Great staff, very charming & wonderful wine. They even have a bed & breakfast....great weekend getaway.

Ferrante Winery and Ristorante (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
This place was a bit too commercialized for my taste, I felt like I was in a mall. Staff was friendly, too long of a wait for dinner.

Hidden Lakes Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
I really liked the fact that this winery is just 30 minutes from my home. They will accomodate birthday, bridal showers, etc & you can bring your own desserts with no extra charge. I loved the ambiance...very relaxing atmosphere. They do need to add more appetizers to their menu though. The wait staff went above & beyond to be friendly.

Old Mill Winery (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
This place was a blast...fun people, great food & entertainment. Prices were reasonable. Will go back to this one!My husband loved one of their sweeter wines, but I can't remember the name.

Grand River Cellars (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Staff was rude, they weren't that busy & it took forever to get waited on & once we did I had to hunt the waitress down to pay our tab. Didn't care for the wine & was very disappointed, especially after all of the advertising.

Chalet Debonne Vineyards (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Really enjoyed this winery. The woman who poured us was very charming & accomodating. Very relaxed atmosphere.

South River Vineyard (written May 31, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Absolutely loved the atmosphere. Very midevil feeling...kind of "forbidden". Only cared for one wine, Temptation & I loved the bottle. The girl that poured us had an attitude like we were bothering her. Would go back to again just because of the atmosphere.
