King Family Vineyards (written Jun 22, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Meritage

I love the open feel of the place. When I went to the King Family Vineyard it was with a group of friends for a private tasting in the back barrel room. I enjoy the background behind each wine and what it might pair with as far as food goes. I would recommend this vineyard to everyone!!

Keswick Vineyards (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 1 stars

Favorite Wine: Consensus 2008

I was a little disappointed to find out the tasting room was not any where near the historical house that is on their wine labels. We were able to catch the place on a slow day with the place to ourselves. The gal behind the beautiful wooden bar was warm and very nice. I love the story about how the vineyard comes up with the Consensus wine. I don't want to ruin it for others but it is worth asking about when you visit. We love the Chocolate Norton sauce...yummy!!!

Horton Cellars Winery (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 2 stars

Favorite Wine: The sweet one...oh wait that is all of them!! Yuck

Well if you have a sweet tooth than this is the Winery for you!! If you like reds then don't even stop the car...keep going. It is wonderful to walk into a winery and they ask you what you want to taste. (I don't know I have NEVER been here before??!?) It would be nice to be pointed in a direction by someone who works there. The really have the wines that taste like every other fruit in the world ... well maybe not grape. I do have to give Horton props for bring back Norton but that is about all I can do.

Gray Ghost Vineyards (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Can't pick one!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this vineyard. I was not expecting much from this place at all and it was the best one of the day. My bridesmaid took me ( the bride) out to a few vineyards one day. We stopped in and they had the Ranger Room reserved for us with the owner as the pour master of the wines. He was friendly and talked at great length about the grapes, when the grapes were picked, what the whole process was for making wine from the grapes on the vines to the wine in the bottle. I think we all walked a way having learned something new that day. I love when people take the time to explain how their vineyard is different and makes their place special. Thanks for taking the time with us and not just pouring wine into a glass and telling us you will taste grapes with a hint of blah blah blah.

Chrysalis Vineyards (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Viognier

I have been to visit this Vineyard several times and really have enjoyed myself while there. I like most of the wines but could do with out their Patio Red "Sarah" named for the grave out back near the patio. This red was way tooooooo sweet for me. I think it would make a wonderful Sangria...once everything else was added to it. I have to comment on the grills they have there for public use...love the idea. Just get there early to claim it. Overall this place is one I will go back to time and time again for the other wines in they have stocked.

Barren Ridge Vineyards (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Meritage

This is one of my favorite Vineyards. They have a wonderful selection of wines. From crisp white wines to dark a full bodied reds. I love there Tinkling Springs -white, Touriga and Cabernet Franc is ... is well yummy!! I love the building that the tasting room is in. The owners have done a wonderful job at making you feel right at home at their place. The wood in the downstairs part of the winery is from the Old Apple Barn/Orchard that was on the property that belong to owners grandfather (I think I have the story straight.. if not sorry...blame it on the great wine they have). They have a wonderful stone fireplace that really can pull you in on a chill day. The outdoor patio area has an amazing view of the rolling hills of the vineyard...breath taking! The upstairs of the vineyard is a beautiful room for receptions and other events. The vineyard has two dogs who get the run of the place. They are such sweet dogs...Rascal and Duse(sp?). The entire staff is friendly and warm. They are willing to take time to answer any and all question thrown their way. I adore this place ... from the casual atmosphere to the outstanding wines. On a side note: I was married here in May of 2010. I loved it!!

Barboursville Vineyards (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Octagon 2004.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. We have been countless times and love it each and every time we go. I understand that the weekends are crazy so I avoid them at all cost. I have done a vertical tasting, newly release wines, and special event at Barboursville. I love the tasting bar with the big wooden barrels above us and the knowledgeable staff serving/pouring the wine. I have learned a great deal by listening and talking to the staff. I find the Octagon room to be fascinating and fun to roam around in. I absolutely love the ruins on the property. I was engaged at the ruins last August 2009.

Wisteria Farm and Vineyard (written Jun 21, 2010)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: Viognier

Wisteria has the feeling of a new vineyard. The setting was rustic with a few sheep out in the barn and chickens running around the property. It was very relaxing place to sip a glass of wine. I would recommend the Viognier and the Chardonnay(oak barrel not the stainless steel).
