nicopony's Wine Journal Entries

Markko Vineyard (written May 25, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
The Chardonnays were remarkable, particularly the Homage. Don't be discouraged by the unpaved roads and forest setting...there really is a winery back in there.

Farinacci Winery (written May 25, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Enjoyed both cabs and bought bottles. The other reds were good too, but the Blackberry Shiraz, which is their most popular, is too sweet for me. The winery is nice, but vacant since the proprietors got rid of all the tables and extras to concentrate solely on the wine. The hours are limited, but if you want some of the better wines in the area, it's a must-stop.

Chalet Debonne Vineyards (written May 25, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Very busy place. I can't comment on their wine, which is unremarkable, but the brewery is quite good.

Buccia Vineyard (written May 25, 2009)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
The sampling was free and plentiful, but I was not amazed by any of the wines. Charmingly rustic area though.

Biscotti Family Winery (written May 25, 2009)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
I was not a fan of their too-sweet fruity wines. The Elderberry wine was the most popular, if you like that kind of wine. I was put off by several on smell alone...the cherry was like cough-syrup.

The Lakehouse Inn Winery (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
We will be staying here this month, but we visited last year and enjoyed the wine. There was this brand new white that had peachy tones, which we loved and we don't even like whites. The scenery is of course gorgeous. The server was a very nice woman who knew her wines.

South River Vineyard (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
I had a pleasant visit to this winery, which is just lovely. The server was friendly, and they were playing great music inside (Indie). The wines are just OK, but have clever names and labels.

Old Firehouse Winery (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
The view of the lake was nice and the entertainment good. Service not so good. Wine: Horrid. Food: Barely edible.

Laurello Vineyards (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
The best wine in Ohio that I have found. The staff was very knowledgeable and were obviously proud of their wine. Rovdavi is a must for red lovers. Pretty on the inside as well. I am so excited to go back this year.

Harpersfield Vineyard (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Picturesque setting with decent wine. The staff was charming and very nice.

Grand River Cellars (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Gorgeous gorgeous patio. The "entertainment" however, was not great (some sort of 80s synthesizer dealy). The wines were good.

Ferrante Winery and Ristorante (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
The wines are good, but sweet. There is a blush there that is just fun for a hot summer day or celebration. The restaurant was yum yum.

Chalet Debonne Vineyards (written May 03, 2009)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Nothing to write home about. The wines we tasted were nothing special, and the setting is somewhat "blue collar." They were having a hot dog burn off while we were there.

It's Your Winery (written Feb 24, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
A nice little winery where you can make your own wine.

Viking Vineyards and Winery (written Feb 06, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
The road to this winery is kinda scary, but it was a nice visit. Accommodates larger groups. They have a nice variety of wines...their Red Kiss is unusual, but good!

Winery at Wolf Creek (written Feb 06, 2007)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 2 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
A very popular spot for locals. Get there early, or you'll have no hope for getting a table. The tasting room has more of a bar-like atmosphere during college football season (it's very loud!). Wines are sickly sweet, but popular with people who've nev

Candlelight Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars
OK. Wine-monger wasn't particularly friendly. Try the chocolate wine!

Perennial Vineyards (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Wine is not great, but the pizza was. Good for large groups (though it was cold inside). Wine-monger didn't know what she was doing during the tasting. Sangrias taste like Kool Aid.

Myrddin Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
A surprise! The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. Not for big groups until they're done with their wine tasting room. Good wine though.

Viking Vineyards and Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Maize Valley Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Very fun place to go. Wines have cute names and are fun to drink. Caught a game of 'cornhole' and pet the animals on the farm.

Mastropietro Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Very pretty. Enjoyed their wine tasting. The wine tasted better at the winery though.

Heineman Winery (written Feb 04, 2007)
Wine: 2 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars
Not great, but something to do while at Put-in-Bay.
