Brandon Hills Vineyard (written Jul 17, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Raptor Red, White Merlot 2012

Beautiful tasting room and deck with a lovely view of the hillside. Wines are tasty and very drinkable but somewhat simplistic. Melissa is very knowledgeable and a delightful hostess.

Old North State Winery (written Jul 17, 2013)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: Malbec 2008, Riesling

Downtown Mt Airy NC, you can't beat it! Barney's famous police car from the Andy Griffith show passed by several times. The tasting room is reminiscent of an Irish pub. The building is old and full of ghost stories... I wish I could have stayed to see if I could encounter a few. The winery salutes these ghost by naming a few of their wines after them. Old North State is the region of northern Carolina before the state divided into North Carolina and South Carolina. Overall, the wines were flavorful but somewhat thin. 4 taps from the brewery available. Beer score: 3

Shelton Vineyards (written Jul 17, 2013)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: 2-5-9 Dry Reisling 2012, 2-5-9 Tannat 2009, Ramily Reserve Claret 2007

The vineyard is beautiful; the tour is interesting; strolling the walking trails was relaxing and rejuvenating. The regular wine line up was interesting though uneventful while the Reserve line was the star of the show. All of the reserve wines were outstanding and the champagne was a treat. The 2-5-9 Dry Riesling 2012 , 2-5-9 Tannat 2009, and the Family Reserve Claret 2007 all chock full of complex flavor profiles and very drinkable. If I could afford a $40 bottle of wine, I would take home the Family Reserve Claret 2007.
