Sunset Hills Vineyard (written May 27, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: 2010 Cabernet Franc
Pro's: Nice variety of wines. Friendly staff. They gave us a generous pour for our first wine while we waited for a spot to open up in the tasting area. Very nice grounds. Con's: Can get very busy.
8 Chains North Winery (written May 27, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: 2011 Malbec
Pro's: Friendly staff. Nice tasting room and back patio. Loved the Memorial Day weekend BBQ out front, very nice touch. Pet friendly. Con's: Not too many bad aspects to this place. Wasn't blown away by their wines.
Barrel Oak Winery (written May 27, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: Bowhaus Red
Pro's: Large variety. Fun atmosphere. Excellent staff. Military discount. Dog and kid friendly. Con's: Can get crowded on the weekends. 2011 was not a good year for their grapes they admit, but they still pull it together well.
Hillsborough Vineyards (written May 27, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: Ruby
The selection of wines is very good. Nice, flavorful reds. Some of the whites are a bit sweet but they carry a good variety. The view was great.
Aspen Dale Winery at The Barn (written May 27, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: Sarah's Chapeau
Pro's: Agreed that it is quaint and unique. Con's: I have mixed feelings about paring foods with the tasting. Hard to get a good feel for the taste of the wine.
Delaplane Cellars (written May 24, 2013)
Wine: Winery:
Ambiance:
Favorite Wine: Cinq Troi
Pro's: The view and the tasting room were great. It's a good place if you don't like the large crowds like at Barrel Oak. Side note, don't be insulted about the no limo rule. A little research and the sign at the front of the winery should clue you in to that. Con's: The selection of wines wasn't anything to write home about. Also didn't appreciate the attitude from one of the employees towards a friend with a child on our second visit. They had sat the child on the bar momentarily and were quickly told "We have liquor laws here!" Maybe so, but could have been handled more politely.
