winewheezie's Wine Journal Entries

Woodstone Creek (written Dec 29, 2012)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Copied this off their website: The wine list varies between 15 to 25 selections. It includes dry white and barrel aged red vinifera varietals, dry to sweet native and hybrid varietals, 8 to 10 meads from dry to sweet, fruit wine, dessert wine and port. They are also the first microdistillery in Ohio and make a dozen or so liquors (whiskey, vodka, gin, single malt, etc.) It's unfortunate nitrofd didn't know the historical significance of this place. They had to change Ohio law SEVERAL times to get it going. This all started over 10 years ago - so the bourbon venture isn't new. It's usually all everybody wants to talk about.

Harmony Hill Vineyards (written Dec 27, 2012)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: n/a

I always find the customer opinion about the owner to be the most out of place. Some people are just not destined to get along. So what? Maybe it's about the wine or maybe it's about some people's need to be "serviced".

Favorite Wine: Chocolate Casanova

I'm in love with the place. I joined the listserve to dispute nitrofd's review. They make maybe 20 or so different wines - they are not all sweet nor are they all meads. Perhaps that's all "nitrofd" picked. The owners are lovely people, but the Mrs is a straight shooter - some people can't handle that. My guess is this guy misinterpreted the situation. Not all businesses have that well-funded ambiance required to impress the snooty crowd. I'm one that doesn't like phonys - pretense isn't my thing. This place attracts REAL people, interesting people like artists and muscians. That being said - if he doesn't go back, it's unlikely he'll be missed.
