Harmony Hill Vineyards (written Feb 25, 2011)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Chambourcin "Rubato"

Harmony Hill is an excellent producer in the Ohio River Valley. They have a strong comitment to quality wine that starts in the vineyard. The setting proves that grapes do not grow in ugly places, and all are welcome to enjoy the property to their fullest. The staff is personable and knowledgable (a feature that I find hard to find at some places). There are several wines that they produce every year with consistant quality and acclaim. My personal favorite is the "Rubato". This wine is a dry barrel aged chambourcin. It has an excellent fruit forward, including black cherry and hints of ripe rhaspberry. The wine is medium bodied and much more complex than many chambourcins that I have come across, 5 stars! The whites also bring a lot to the table at Harmony. Their "Concerto" is the perfect summer sipper. It is made from 100% Vidal Blanc and has an excellent balance between delicate sweetness and acidity. Another personal favorite of mine is the Seyval Blanc "woodwind". This wine is barrel fermented and aged sir lee. This brings out the fruit of the wine. Honey, melon and citris tone come out strongly. In all truth there is no wine at Harmony Hill that I would not reccomend. My tru advise is to go to the winery and see for yourself. The staff will be happy to walk you throuh the wines and find the perfect match. Also take the time to gain as much knowledge as possible about the grape growing and wine making process. Enjoy!
