Mary Peterhaensel's Wine Journal Entries

Benigna's Creek Vineyard and Winery (written Oct 05, 2009)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
Fruit wines have won all kinds of awards, and are excellent. Hessian Red is a good all-around wine. Tulpehocken Blush, Traminette are great. Try their traminette with melted brie cheese and sliced Granny Smith apples. Chambourcin Reserve, a fine red. Most enjoyable visit. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Hunters Valley Winery (written Oct 05, 2009)

An excellent selection of wines. One of few wineries who make use of the baco noir grape, my favorite, in their Berry Mountain Red. A most helpful and friendly staff.

Spyglass Ridge Winery (written Oct 05, 2009)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
You can't find a nicer, more friendly, or helpful staff. And, what a special group of wines! Their seyval has the most wonderful bouquet. Their niagara is the best around. Fruit wines are great, especially kiwi. They obviously put their whole hearts into their winemaking, for all their wines are special, each in its own way.

Shade Mountain Winery (written Oct 05, 2009)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars
Wonderful, large variety of wines. Six Dwarfs mint unusual and remarkable. Lemberger won top awards this year and is excellent. Savignon blanc very good. Fruit wines great. Something for everyone. Friendly staff. Lovely setting. Many special events.
