Val Verde Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Texas Rose

Visited Texas for the first time this year. Made a visit to the oldest winery in Texas. They only have about six wines and two of them are made from the grapes grown there. Of them all, we enjoyed the Texas Rose the most although most of them were unremarkable to our taste.

Peninsula Cellars (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Homework

This was a nice stop in the peninsula. The person pouring our wine was informative about the different wines and the history of the winery and the building. We thought the names of the wines were quite clever--Schoolhouse red, Detention, Homework.

Chateau Chantal Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

This was our favorite winery on the peninsula. We wished we hadn't bought as much wine at the other ones. Beautiful setting, good wines, friendly but crowded. Reasonably priced!

Brys Estate Vineyard and Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

This winery has a beautiful facility. I found it to be slightly snooty. The guy pouring the wine was much more interested in the obviously richer/snootier people who were also tasting at the same time as us. Guess I can't blame him, although we did end up buying several wines.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

We enjoyed our visit here very much! Although I don't think they have the best wines on the peninsula, we came away with a few bottles of wine simply because of the friendly atmosphere.

Three Lakes Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Old Glory, Cranberry

Although I'm not a big fruit wine drinker, there are some of these wines I love! It is impressive that all their wines are made 100% from the fruits which they are named. This is the only winery in the state to do so! It is worth the trip and worth the time to take the short tour and taste some of the wines.

Wollersheim Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Prairie Fume, Blushing Rose, Riesling

I remember visiting Wollersheim with my parents when I was a senior in high school. This winery has grown so much since then and is still a wonderful winery to visit. I highly recommend the tour. Wonderful wineries, great ambiance!

von Stiehl Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Chenin Blanc, Naughty Girl, Wedding Wine

We have long considered the Von Stiehl Winery to be our favorite. It is quite a trip for us to get there, but luckily it is possible to find a lot of their wine locally now. Although they have a lot of fruit wines, they also have other grape wines which are very nice. This is one winery everyone should visit at least once!

Parallel 44 Vineyard and Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Frozen Tundra

We have never visited this winery before and I have to say we really enjoyed it. It is worth the drive as it sits in the middle of nowhere, but is scenic to get there. We enjoyed every wine we tasted which is not common for us. The gal who poured our wine was friendly and informative. I would recommend this winery to anyone and we would definitely go back again.

Orchard Country Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Romance

We have visited this winery many times and it is one of our favorites. There are many fruit wines but also many blended wines. With such variety of wines, it isn't hard to find at least one wine you like.

Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 3 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Peninsula Gold

This is the first time we visited this winery and we truly enjoyed our visit. The person who poured for us was very nice and even gave us an extra taste of another wine. We LOVED the Peninsula Gold which is a cream sherry! We will visit here again.

Stone's Throw Winery & Restaurant (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Favorite Wine: none

We had been to Stone's Throw several years ago when it first opened and had not been very impressed. The wines tasted vinegary and they didn't have very many. We went back again this year to try it again and although their selections of wines had improved, I was shocked at their prices and still felt like the wine was bitter and vinegary. As we left my husband commented that this was the kind of wine we are TOLD we should like. The truth is, we just didn't like it. Wine tasting was $5.00 a person and we got to keep the glass. Too bad we couldn't find any Stone's Throw wine to put in it. We won't go back again.

Door Peninsula Winery (written Aug 14, 2010)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: strawberry zin

It has been quite a long time since we visited this winery and I have to say things have really improved. They used to have just fruited wines that all tended to be very sweet. They have added several new wines that really impressed me. Although the strawberry zin in sweeter than I usually like in a wine, I could see myself drinking this with some cheese and crackers. The wine tasting was free and they let us try as many wines as we wanted to try. Great hospitality even though they were busy!
