Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery (written Jan 05, 2009)
Wine: 1 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 3 stars
After a visit to Simon Creek's website, I ventured on the new road to Door County from my home in Appleton for a tour and taste. Having phoned on the way, I was told that tours start "whenever you arrive". But their idea of a tour was looking through a window to the cellar floor below! It could have been a dairy, for all I saw was a few tanks. What gives, I asked and the owner, I think he's the owner (a heavy white haired man engrossed in a football game) basically grunted and said "that's our tour" and went back to the game. From a hospitality point of view, this place rates a solid ZERO! Wanting to taste, I tried four wines and my tasting was over in 5 MINUTES or so and not memorable. The Cab was ordinary and the 'Untouchable Red' was closer to 'Undrinkable Red'. Readers please note: Skip past this place, try others and just know this is the first time I've been so wordy in a review, but this was unacceptable. Try Red Oak or anywhere else.
