Shade Mountain Winery (written Jun 06, 2008)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 1 stars Ambiance: 1 stars

Favorite Wine: Viognier ~ Dry

My girl friend Jill and I stopped at Shade Mountain on the way back to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh. We had a very pleasant visit at the winery. The staff was friendly, helpful and open to questions about the history of the vineyard. The vineyard is located on a hill surrounded by many acres of vines under cultivation. This presented a very beautiful view that we enjoyed from the vineyard’s deck. We tasted most of the wines they had to offer. Their whites had a very nice bouquet and taste; we thought that their reds were not as good. If you are any where near Middleburg, PA it would be worth your time to stop at Shade Mountain for a visit!

Rose Bank Winery (written Jul 25, 2007)
Wine: 3 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: Vidal Blnac 2006

Jill and I loved the atmosphere and friendly service at Rose Bank. Their white wines were very good, particularly for the price. Their reds were not very good at all, but they will tell you that ahead of time. We spent a very lovely afternoon tasting their whites and enjoying our picnic on the grounds.

Paradocx Vineyard (written Jul 08, 2007)
Wine: 4 stars Winery: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars

Favorite Wine: Yeld

Jill and I weet to the Chaddsfords winery on Memorial Day weekend in 2006. We enjoyed the visit, but it was not quite what we had envisioned when we planned to visit a winery (there was not a grape vine in sight). However, during the event at Chaddsfords we found the flyers for the First Annual 4th of July "Road Kill BBQ" to be held at the five wineries on the Brandywine Valley and decided then to take that opportunity to explore the other wineries. On the 4th we visited Va La vineyards which we liked alot (see the separate journal entries for our visit to the "Va La Nation") and then by pure chance decided to visit the Paradocx vineyard where we fell in love with the wines, the ambience, and the very freindly owners. Jill and I and a friend spent the remainder of the 4th drinking their wines, eating their BBQ and enjoying the beautiful view of their vineyards as they lay sprawed over the surrounding hills and valleys. Jill and I and the same friend went back this past week for the same BBQ event. Everything that we loved from our first visit was still there, but this year they added a great Jazz band. Once again we spent a beautiful lazy summer's afternoon visting the Paradocx vineyard. If you are looking to have a summer pinic with good friends, good wine and good food; we strongly recommned the Paradocx winery.

Va La Family Farmed Wines (written Jul 08, 2007)
Wine: 5 stars Winery: 4 stars Ambiance: 4 stars

Favorite Wine: La Prima Donna

The wine and the staff make Va La one of our favorites. We've always felt instantly welcomed on our visits and the e-mail updates and website never fail to produce at least a chuckle (more often full-blown laughter). Don't let the light-hearted spirit fool you though, these folks know the wine, the land, and the local produce, cheese, chocolate, and specialty foods. Our wine tastings at Va La have always felt more like a mini-vacation!
